Arterial & Venous Study of Lower Extremities
An Arterial-Venous Study of the lower extremities is a non-invasive diagnostic test used to evaluate blood flow in the arteries and veins of the legs. It helps detect blockages, narrowing, or abnormalities in circulation, often linked to conditions like Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) or Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

Purpose of the Test
- Assess blood circulation in the legs
- Diagnose blocked or narrowed arteries (PAD)
- Detect blood clots or venous insufficiency
- Evaluate leg pain, swelling, or ulcers
- Normal ECG but ongoing symptoms
How the Test is Performed
- Doppler Ultrasound or Duplex Scan is used
- Sound waves visualize blood flow in arteries and veins
- Pressure cuffs may be placed on legs to compare circulation
- Completely painless and radiation-free procedure
Common Symptoms That Require This Study
- Leg pain while walking (claudication)
- Swelling in legs or feet
- Varicose veins
- Skin discoloration or ulcers
- Coldness or numbness in legs
Benefits
- Early detection of circulatory issues
- Helps plan treatment such as angioplasty, surgery, or compression therapy
- Monitors effectiveness of previous interventions
