Cardiovascular Disease Prevention
Reventing cardiovascular disease (CVD) involves managing risk factors proactively through lifestyle changes, regular screenings, and when necessary, medications. Our goal is to help you take control of your heart health before problems arise.

1. Lifestyle Modifications
Heart-Healthy Diet
- Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins (like fish and legumes), and healthy fats (like olive oil, avocados).
- Reduce intake of saturated fats, trans fats, sodium, refined sugars, and processed foods.
- Consider adopting heart-smart plans like the DASH or Mediterranean diet.
Physical Activity
- Engage in 30–60 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise (like brisk walking or cycling) at least 5 days a week.
- Include strength training exercises 2 times a week for overall cardiovascular benefit.
Smoking Cessation
Smoking significantly increases CVD risk. Quitting smoking is one of the best steps you can take to improve your heart health.
Weight Management
Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight lowers the risk of high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol — all CVD risk factors.
Stress Management
Chronic stress can elevate heart risk. Incorporate techniques like deep breathing, meditation, yoga, or counseling.
Sleep Health
Aim for 7–9 hours of quality sleep per night. Poor sleep contributes to high blood pressure and metabolic issues.
2. Regular Health Screenings
- Blood Pressure: High blood pressure often has no symptoms but damages arteries over time.
- Cholesterol: Elevated cholesterol levels can lead to plaque buildup in arteries.
- Blood Glucose: Regular testing helps detect diabetes, a key risk factor for CVD.
- Other Screenings: Based on age and family history, your doctor may suggest additional heart-health evaluations.
3. Medication Adherence
- If you're prescribed medications for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, or other conditions — take them as directed.
- Never stop or skip medication without consulting your healthcare provider.
4. Risk Factor Management
- Manage existing conditions like hypertension, diabetes, or high cholesterol early.
- Stay alert to signs of heart attack or stroke — seek emergency care immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, dizziness, or weakness.
